Astra sponsorship supports Ultimate race

Concealed door closer manufacturers Astra Door Controls is providing invaluable sponsorship for an epic charity bike ride for the Steve Prescott Foundation (SPF). A crack team of SPF cyclists will tackle an impressive endurance race - the Race Across Europe – starting in Boulogne Sur Mer in Northern France and finishing in Gibraltar, aiming to beat the record for the route.

The route incorporates some of the toughest cycling terrain in Europe and covers 3000 miles through France, Germany, Austria, Italy and Spain. The challenge is to cycle nonstop, 24 hours a day, to set a 6-day record for the event while raising £60k for the SPF. Astra’s sponsorship will help fund the 18-strong support team who will back up the cyclists to allow them to concentrate on achieving their goals.

The SPF was set up by Rugby League legend Steve Prescott following his diagnosis with a rare stomach cancer in 2006. It raises money for The Christie Cancer Hospital in Manchester, one of Europe's leading cancer treatment centres, and Try Assist, a charity supporting players whose lives are affected by serious injuries while playing Rugby League. Since its inception, SPF has raised over a million pounds.
