3000 Series concealed door closers have been used to great aesthetic and practical effect on a landmark residential development in at a landmark development in East London.
Chosen for easy installation and subsequently reduced installed costs, the innovative Astra 3000 Series Concealed Closers were used on apartment entrance doors on the residential development on the Royal Albert Basin.
Built by Mulalley for One Housing Group, Royal Albert Basin is a £14 million scheme, part of the regeneration of the wider Albert Docks area of Beckton. High quality riverfront homes will be built on current derelict brownfield land in this fast evolving part of London. The development will consist of four residential blocks centred round a spacious courtyard of playable spaces providing a colourful social hub for the community.
Architectural Ironmonger John Planck Ltd was tasked with scheduling the hardware for doors on the Albert Basin project. The brief included a strong requirement for fire safety and so Astra’s 300 Series fully controlled and adjustable were the obvious choice. The 3000 Series concealed closers offer all the adjust ability and control of an overhead closer, with the aesthetic appeal of a concealed device. They are often specified when clean, minimal design is required without compromising on performance – even on ½ hour and 1 hour fire doors. This adjust ability helps specifiers to achieve doors which comply with the Equality Act 2010, Building Regs and PAS 24 for entrance doors and the RRO for fire doors.
John Ducey from John Planck says “Every single fire door on this project has an Astra concealed closer. We considered overhead closers but the Astra 3000 Series won hands down on installed costs because they are so simple and foolproof to fit. Plus they have the advantage of suiting the minimalist aesthetic of the project.” Astra believes that the 3000 Series are the easiest concealed closer to fit on the market.
